The Virtual Foundry - Metal Filamet Sample (100g)
The Virtual Foundry - Metal Filamet Sample (100g)
Transform your standard FFF/FDM 3D printer into a real metal additive manufacturing system with Metal Filamet™ Samples by The Virtual Foundry. Designed to print on open-architecture 3D printers and even 3D printing pens, these metal-infused filaments allow you to produce green-state parts that can be debound and sintered in a furnace to yield pure, solid metal components.
Engineered for hassle-free printing, Metal Filamet™ handles similarly to standard PLA with minimal warping and low hygroscopic sensitivity. Available in 100g sample sizes across 1.75mm and 2.85mm diameters, it provides an accessible path to test high-density metal printing before committing to full spools.
Key Features
- Universal Open-Architecture Compatibility: Prints on standard FDM/FFF 3D printers and 3D printing pens without requiring specialized, proprietary hardware.
- Fully Sinterable Metal Content: High metal particle loading by mass allows parts to be fired in a furnace into solid metal end-use components.
- User-Friendly Extrusion: High thermal stability, minimal to no warping during printing, and lower moisture absorption than standard PLA.
- Broad Material Options: Available in engineering alloys including Stainless Steel, Titanium, Inconel, Copper, Bronze, Tool Steel, and Tungsten.

Printing & Handling Guidelines
- Nozzle Requirements: A wear-resistant hardened steel nozzle (0.6mm or 0.8mm depending on material) is required to handle abrasive metal powders.
- Filament Path: Ensure a straight, low-friction feeding path into the extruder to avoid brittle filament breakage.
- Drying Warning: Do not active-dry this filament. Thermal drying degrades the organic binder system.
