This is why we love our Blue PLA+ Filament.
PLA is the most popular and affordable material used in 3D printing. Due to its plant-based components, it is an eco-friendly thermoplastic. You will notice a glossy type finishing to your 3D printed project. PLA+ filament is easy to use. It is also considered to go-to 3D printing filament for household prints. Our PLA is odorless.
PLA bio-plastic enables products to be produced with high bio-based content and a reduced carbon footprint. Our PLA+ offers a 75% reduction in carbon footprint compared to most traditional fossil-based plastics. PLA filament is produced from renewable feedstocks like sugarcane, corn, sugar beet, and cassava.
PLA is a great first material to use as you are learning about 3D printing because it is easy to print, very inexpensive, and creates parts that can be used for a wide variety of applications.
Blue PLA+ Filament Tips:
- Using a fan that cools the 3D-printed part from all directions is highly recommended. To improve the cooling airflow, there are many popular 3D printers that have community-designed attachments that can be printed and retrofitted onto your machine.
- To create strong parts that are less likely to break, increase the number of perimeter outlines for your PLA filament prints, which will create a strong bond between each layer.
PLA Filament Applications & Uses
PLA+ filament properties make it suitable for the manufacture of bottles, plastic film, and biodegradable medical devices, such as screws, pins, plates, and rods. These applications should be designed to biodegrade within 6 to 12 months.
There are exceptions when the material it’s not exposed to environmental factors. For example, with no extra heat and standard water, PLA should last decades in water. PLA filament requires special conditions to break down or degrade. However, many people use PLA in aquariums, bathtubs, or pools without problems.
In this case, Blue PLA+ Filament does not break down completely unless the water temperature is sustained above 50°C with the presence of particular enzymes for a biological reaction. This process could have a duration of about 6 months for it to decompose.
Also, PLA filament can be used as a shrink-wrap material since it constricts under heat. This is why we wouldn’t recommend printing a plastic cup or coffee mag that would contain hot liquids.
